Vermont’s regular deer season opens Saturday, Nov. 14, according to a press release from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. I read the official announcement, which includes the season dates and rules for hunters across the state.
The regular season runs through Sunday, Nov. 29, and hunters are required to tag their deer immediately after harvest and report the animal within 48 hours. The department also reminds hunters that antlerless deer may only be taken if the hunter possesses a separate antlerless deer tag or a muzzleloader season antlerless tag.
What Homeowners Should Know
For Vermont homeowners, the start of deer season means more activity in wooded areas and near property lines. Hunters may be present on adjacent public or private land, and homeowners should be aware of their own property boundaries and any posted signage. If you have deer frequenting your yard, the increased hunting pressure can push them into residential areas seeking cover.
If you find an injured deer on your property during or after the season, do not approach it. Contact the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department for guidance. Homeowners who deal with deer damaging gardens or landscaping can also check state rules on nuisance wildlife. While deer season itself is about hunting, the same caution applies to any wild animal that might appear in your yard, understanding how to handle an encounter with a wild animal safely is always important.
