The short version: browsing this site sets no tracking cookies of our own, our analytics are cookieless, and advertising cookies only load once you agree to them where the law requires consent.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to store so it can recognize the browser later. Related technologies (local storage, pixels, device identifiers) do similar jobs. This page covers all of them.

Analytics
Traffic statistics come from a self-hosted Umami instance. It is cookieless, it does not store information on your device, it does not follow you across sites and it does not create a profile. It runs only on our production domain, and it never runs when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Opt out permanently: open this link with the opt-out flag. It switches analytics off for this browser and stores that choice locally, so it survives future visits. Repeat it after clearing site data, or clear the umami.disabled entry to switch analytics back on.
Advertising cookies
Advertising on the site is served by Google AdSense, which can set cookies to limit how often an ad is shown and to choose ads based on your device and browsing. Consent is collected by Google's certified consent platform: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland personalized ads and their cookies stay off until you accept them in that message, and in the US states with privacy statutes the same message carries the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link. Refusing is as easy as accepting, and refusing does not reduce what you can read on the site. You can change that choice later in the same message, and you can manage personalized advertising in your Google ad settings.
Cookies set by other companies
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer (for example Amazon) may set its own cookies to attribute a purchase. Those cookies belong to the retailer, are governed by its policy, and are outside our control. Embedded media, if any, works the same way.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a private mode. Blocking essential cookies will stop operator login from working; blocking third-party cookies has no effect on reading the site.
