Corrections & Listing Removal

Two things land here: a mistake in a guide, and a business asking us to fix or remove its listing. Both are handled by a person.

Reporting an error in a guide

Send the page URL, the sentence that is wrong, and if you can, a source that shows the correct position: a state agency page, a university extension publication, a study, or the manufacturer’s documentation. Write to the contact form with the subject “Correction”.

We check the source rather than accepting the correction automatically, then we update the page and add a visible note when the change is material. Guides that depend on state rules are re-checked when those rules change, and the “last updated” date on the page reflects the last review.

Business listings

Listings are compiled from published state agency lists: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. We publish what the agency publishes, including the license or authorization number and, where the agency lists it, the county or city.

If a listing is wrong, incomplete or should not be there, we will look at it. You do not have to claim the listing to make a request, and you do not have to pay for anything to have a mistake corrected.

Correcting a listing

Send the listing URL, the field that is wrong, and what it should say, with the agency record that supports it (a license page, a renewal notice, or a screenshot from the agency’s own search). Typical corrections: a license number, a trading name, a phone number, the counties served, or a business that has changed hands.

Removing a listing

Write to the contact form with the subject “Listing removal” and the listing URL. We remove a listing when any of these applies:

• the license has lapsed, been revoked or transferred, and the agency no longer lists the business;
• the business no longer offers the service, or has closed;
• the listing is not actually the requester’s business, and the requester is the true business;
• the business asks to be delisted, even though the state record is still current. That is your call: no business has to be listed here.

We do not remove a listing simply because the business dislikes the state record it came from, and we do not accept payment to hide a competitor. We confirm what we did by email.

Personal information in a listing

Where the state list names an individual, removing a phone number, a street address or a license reference is possible on request, and we will also consider removing the listing entirely if the agency record itself is not public. Complaints about a listed business

We do not mediate disputes between homeowners and operators, and we do not run a review system, so we cannot arbitrate a job that went wrong. What we do care about is accuracy: if a listed business is misrepresenting its license or insurance, or is using a protected-species method that is not legal in its state, tell us and we will review the listing. Serious licensing complaints belong with the state agency that issued the license.

How long it takes

Corrections to our own guides are normally handled within a few business days. Listing corrections and removals are handled within two business days once we can see the agency record, and removal requests are actioned without charging anything.
