If you believe something on this site infringes your copyright, tell us and we will act. Most complaints we receive are about a photograph, so please point at the exact page and the exact image.

Where our material comes from

Guides and page text are written for this site. Photographs come from a mix of sources: our own, licensed stock, Creative Commons and public domain material from government agencies such as the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service and state wildlife agencies, and Wikimedia Commons or Openverse media published under a commercial-use license. Each image is used under the license recorded when it was added, with attribution where the license requires it. If a credit is missing or wrong, that is a mistake we want to fix.

Sending a notice

Send a written notice to the contact form with the subject “Copyright notice”, including:

• your name, and an email address where we can reply;
• identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed;
• the exact URL of each page on this site that carries the material, and where the material sits on the page;
• a statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
• a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them;
• your physical or electronic signature.

What we do next

We remove or disable access to the material while we check the notice, normally within a few business days, and we tell you what we did. If the same uploader repeatedly infringes, we stop working with them.

If you believe your own content was removed by mistake

Send a counter-notice to the same address, identifying the removed material, the URL it was at, and your statement that you have a good faith belief it was removed by mistake or misidentification, plus your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of Italy for disputes about it. We may restore the material unless the original complainant tells us they have started a legal action.

Using our content

Quoting a short excerpt from a guide with a link back is fine. Republishing an article, a table, or a set of listings in full is not. See the Terms of Use.
